259 KT&G to be Awarded ‘700 million dollar export tower award’ on the 53rd Trade Day 2016.12.05

KT&G (CEO Bok-in Baek) is to receive ‘700million dollar export tower award’ on the 53rd Trade Day ceremony hosted by the Korea International Trade Association held at COEX, Samsung-dong, Seoul, on December 5.


KT&G announced that the total overseas sales including Esse and stable export increase made of exports from Korea amounted 764 million dollar (approx. 800 billion won) between July 1, 2015 and June 30, 2016. The sales amount increased by 22% year over year. KT&G started to receive export tower award with 100 million dollar in 2002. This year is its sixth award after 200 million dollar in 2004, 300 million dollar in 2006, 400 million dollar in 2008 and 500 million dollar in 2011.


Since its first export in 1988, KT&G cigarette sells across 50 countries. Accumulated overseas sales amount to 540 billion sticks equivalent of 6.6 billion dollars until September 2016. Customized product strategy according to the consumer needs in Middle East and Central Asia, major markets of KT&G, and new big market development and efforts for Asia Pacific and Central and South America led export increase.


KT&G’s year 2016 revenue and operating profit from export increased by 28% to 681.1 billion won and by 66% to 289.8 billion won, respectively, year over year. The company sold a total of 46.5 billion cigarettes through exports from Korea and products made in overseas factories overseas in 2015, which outperformed its domestic sales for the first time.


KT&G will invest in and support new overseas markets with growth potential including Africa for sustainable growth and also encourage to export raw tobacco material and quality measuring equipment. KT&G will endeavor to receive one-billion dollar export tower award and become a top-tier export company in Korea”
