216 Gyeongju to Present Appreciation Plaque to KT&G for Earthquake Restoration Support 2016.11.24

KT&G (CEO Bok-in Baek) was awarded appreciation plaque from Gyeongju city for supporting the restoration of cultural assets in Gyeongju in the wake recent powerful earthquakes on November 23.


Kido Park, head of civil administration bureau of Gyeongju City and members of 19 organizations who participated in the earthquake restoration attended the event held in Seorabeol Cultural Center in Gyeongju.


In September, Bok-in Baek, CEO of KT&G and Sunhwa Na, head of Cultural Heritage Administration signed ‘restoration support agreement for cultural assets damaged by earthquake’ and KT&G delivered 500million won restoration funds at Seoak-seowon in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province. Cultural heritage restoration support was fully funded from KT&G Sangsang Fund, a unique corporate social responsibility(CSR) fund raised by employees’ voluntary monthly donation and the Company with matching fund scheme which donates the same amount prepared by its employees.


KRW 250million out of total KRW 500million donation was used for the restoration of roof-tiles of traditional Korean-style houses vulnerable to earthquake in Historic City Management Promotion Area. The remaining fund will be used for the restoration of cultural assets and historic city maintenance.


Jinhan Kim, head of KT&G CSR division, said, “There was a concern for continual aftershocks after the restoration fund delivery ceremony held two months ago. We feel thankful that the restoration fund raised by KT&G employees has been meaningfully used for Gyeongju citizen.


In addition to the fund donation, in October, KT&G held its sports festival and traditional market place promotion events with its 200 employees in Gyeongju to promote the local economy.
