KT&G (president Bok-in Baek) carried out nation-wide volunteer work in 27 regions called “Paint with Imagination” to improve old alleys via wall paining.

The volunteer activity includes painting walls of old alley, stairs and bus stops in lagging city areas with old houses, cultivating flower gardens in vacant lot and traditional market. Accumulated number of college student volunteers amount to 6,000 since the volunteer work started in May 2015.

Various volunteer work was conducted nationwide in 27 regions. In Daesung-dong, Masan City of South Gyeonsang Province, the volunteers cooperated with local fire stations to paint walls and install fire extinguishers and fire hydrants at various places of village for safety. In Ssangmun-dong in Seoul, wall paining together with flower garden cultivation were provided.

Positive response from local communities and local governments led KT&G to receive ‘Environment Prize’ from Seoul Metropolitan Government.

An official with KT&G said, “KT&G conducted wall paining work with local college student volunteers for living environment improvement focused on alley of old town and lagging urban area. KT&G will keep conducting a variety of activities for the local community to contribute to make the local community a better place to live.”

‘KT&G Sangsang Volunteer’ is a student volunteer group and provided volunteer work over 1,300 times with accumulated number of volunteers amounting to 6,800.
